Description

This is a headstone located approximately 7 metres south of the tower of the Church of St Michael in Chagford. It dates from the late 17th century to early 18th century and is made of granite ashlar. The headstone is an upright slab with a segmental head, standing about 450mm high. The front features a sunken panel that contains a stylised winged cherub's head in low relief. The lettering on the headstone is worn and barely legible, with only the name "John" discernible; the surname and date are either illegible or obscured.
