Description
The New Clapper Bridge, located about 150 metres northeast of Lower Cator Farmhouse, is a clapper bridge spanning the West Webburn River. It dates from the 18th century or early 19th century and is constructed of granite. The bridge features a series of stone lintels that extend from the abutments to a central pier, which has a well-made cutwater on the upstream side. On either side of the bridge, there are plain wrought-iron railings made up of three square-section uprights topped with loops to support a diagonal-set rail. This bridge has group value with, and may replace, an older clapper bridge that is now disused, located approximately 15 metres to the southeast.
