Description
This is a barn located about 6 metres south west of Hill, likely built in the late 17th century and extended or rebuilt at the north end in the 18th century. It is constructed from stone rubble and cob, with a corrugated iron roof that has gabled ends. The barn has a rectangular plan and is situated downhill from the former farmhouse, Hill, next to the road. The original entrance is unclear, but it is currently accessed at the north end, which is open.
The barn is lofted, featuring a loft loading door on the east side facing the road, and several blocked doorways on the west side. A thick cob crosswall indicates that the building has been extended at the north end, which is now open. Inside, the north end contains two pegged collar rafter roof trusses, likely from the late 18th or 19th century. The southern part of the barn has three collar rafter trusses from the late 17th century, which have lap-dovetailed collars and are steeply cambered. Lintels and straight joints in the west wall suggest significant rebuilding has occurred. The barn has group value with Hill.
