Description
East Steps and Foxhole are two adjoining houses located in Dunsford, dating from the early 19th century, with some alterations made in the 20th century. They are constructed of whitewashed rendered cob on stone rubble footings. Each house features two main front rooms and a central entrance, with shallow rear service rooms that may be integral. A cartway runs through the right end of the left house, East Steps, leading to the rear. The buildings are two storeys high and have a long window range with regular fenestration. East Steps includes a gabled porch on the left and has 2- and 3-light casement windows with glazing bars. Foxhole has a symmetrical front elevation with a central 20th-century porch that has a tiled hipped roof, along with 2- and 3-light casement windows, some featuring 20th-century leaded panes. The interior has not been inspected. A section of cob wall with tile and slate capping forms the boundary between the garden at the rear of East Steps and the churchyard. Despite the 20th-century glazing, these houses contribute to the charming cob and thatch character of Dunsford village, situated just east of the church.
