Description
This barn, located about 4 meters west of Wringworthy Farmhouse, dates from the early 16th century but has been incorporated into a rebuilt structure with alterations and a 19th-century roof. It is built from a mix of slatestone, Hurdwick and granite rubble, with Hurdwick stone dressings and dressed stone quoins, topped with a slate roof. The barn has a rectangular plan and is divided into two sections, featuring a loft above.
The two-storey barn has a tall opening on the left side with a timber lintel that serves as a cill for the upper floor opening. There are paired lancet windows, which are chamfered and formed from a single block of Hurdwick stone, located at both the ground and first floors. The ground floor lancet has recessed spandrels. To the right, there is a wooden doorway with a round head, and a later lean-to structure that has a door with a granite lintel. An open-fronted lean-to is situated on the left side.
The left return of the barn features a ventilation slit in the gable end, while the right return has two openings in the lean-to and large granite quoins to the right. The rear of the lean-to also has a similar paired lancet window made of Hurdwick stone. The rear of the barn includes a central opening with a timber lintel. Inside, the gable end on the left return appears to have been rebuilt above wall level, and the barn has a 19th-century four-bay roof with principal rafters, collars, and one row of purlins.
