Description
The Bottle Kiln at Applewoods Factory is likely from the late 19th century or early 20th century and was re-erected on this site for the Devonmoor Art Pottery in 1932 or 1934. It is constructed of yellow brick, with the flue being a distinctly darker color. The square base is reinforced with railway rails. It is believed to be a Revelation Kiln that was brought here from Candys Pottery in Heathfield, Bovey Tracey. The kiln is located at the north-east end of the factory, behind a low range of buildings that face the road to Ilsington village. The Devonmoor Art Pottery was established in 1922, and the factory is marked as "Old Foundry" on the 25-inch Ordnance Survey map from 1905.
