Description

Meadhay is a house from the early 19th century, with an earlier rear wing. It is constructed of whitewashed plastered stone rubble, with the 19th-century section featuring some cob below the eaves. The roof is slate, hipped over the 19th-century range with lead rolls at the hips and ridge, and gabled at the rear of the wing. There is a stack at the left end, a rear right stack at the junction of the two sections, and a gable end stack on the rear wing.

The main early 19th-century section has a single-depth plan, with a principal room on either side of a central entrance hall that likely contains the stairs. Behind the right-hand room is a service wing, which seems to be an early 19th-century remodelling of an earlier single-depth house, likely repurposed as a service wing when the front range was added. The house is two storeys tall and has a symmetrical three-window front with a dentil cornice. The central entrance features a six-panel front door, with the top panels glazed, under a flat canopy supported by brackets. There is a rectangular fanlight with diamond glazing bars, and the windows are 16-pane hornless sashes with external shutters.

The interior of the front range has not been inspected, but it may still contain early 19th-century features. The rear wing includes a 20th-century range inserted into a large fireplace with granite jambs and a bread oven to the left. The room next to the early 19th-century range has a boxed-in cross beam and a 20th-century grate, which may be concealing earlier features.
