Description
No. 3 Claypipes is a small cottage located on Lilley's Alley in Tewkesbury, dating from the 16th and 19th centuries. The building features timber-framing with a tile roof. It consists of a square-panel timber-framed section that spans the alley and a two-storey gabled brick main section. Under the timber-framed unit, there is a square-panel framed wall with painted brick nogging, which includes a plank door and a large structural post. The wall on the outer side of the alley is made of brick. The southern return wall is constructed of new or reused brick and has a large two-light gabled dormer above an opening with a wooden lintel. On the northern side, there is a low return wing that connects to the adjacent Tudor Cottage. This property is one of the few remaining buildings that span an alley, originally built on rear burgage plots due to population pressure. The interior has not been inspected.
