Description

No. 7 Church Street is a house in a row that has been converted into a retail unit and flats. The building features an early 19th-century front that incorporates 16th-century fabric. It is constructed with Flemish bond brickwork and timber-framing, topped with a tile roof and a brick stack. The property has a side-entry right-angle plan with a gable facing the street. It is a tall, narrow structure with four storeys and a basement, featuring one window.

In the gable, which is truncated and shouldered, there is a six-pane sash window. The first and second floors each have a 16-pane sash window, all set beneath splayed V-joint lintels with keystones and stone cills. The ground floor includes a two-light 19th-century shop front with a glazed door to the left, accessed by two stone steps. The deep fascia of the shop front is adorned with decorative cast-iron cresting across its full width. There is a grille to the basement in the pavement, and the gable is finished with stone coping. A square brick stack with stepped capping is located on the right party wall.

The interior was only partially inspected, with the ground floor front revealing substantial braced framing exposed in both party walls.
