STANWAY STANWAY VILLAGE SP 0632-0732 13/128 Pyramid in grounds of Stanway House, about 300m to the east GV II Ornamental garden building. 1750 for Robert Tracy (datestone). Ashlar masonry. Square building. Towards house: moulded plinth, rusticated quoins to corners; central opening with semi- circular head, balustrade across bottom, widely spaced iron glazing bars: rusticated quoins to jambs, extending up into rusticated panel over of same width framing plaque. Moulded cornice, blocking course, gadrooned urn finials at corners, steep square, stone pyramid above with swept foot. Interior, room reduced to octagon with 4 semi-circular recesses, shell in head; openings to 4 main sides, balustrade only across east and west ones. Above level of removed ceiling double fins in corners, carrying circular cone, rubble stone lower part, brick above. Built as memorial to John Tracy (latin inscription on plaque), at top of cascade: cascade removed mid C19. Forms group with House (q.v.). (D.
