Description
Mill House at Northway Mill is a house that possibly dates from the 17th century and was altered in the 19th century. It features a blue lias plinth that has been repaired with brick at the front. The exterior is mainly rendered, which may be hiding some timber framing. The left gable end and a small section of the facade are made of coursed squared and dressed limestone. The roof is covered with red tiles and has brick stacks, one of which is rendered. The main body of the house has a rectangular plan and a four-windowed facade.
On the first floor, there are four 2-light 19th-century steel casements with horizontal glazing bars and original handles. The ground floor has two similar 3-light steel casements with hoodmoulds and beaded inner moulding above the windows. An off-centre right double studded plank door is set within a roll-moulded 14th-century pointed-arched surround, which is likely reused from a house known as Carrant's Place. Above this door, there are two angels holding undecorated shields, with a flat hood above, which have been reused in the upper part of the right gable end.
There is a single-storey 19th-century extension with a brick dentil cornice that is positioned at right angles to the main body of the house towards the left gable end. The gable ends of the main body have flat coping, and there is a roll-cross saddle at the left gable end. The right gable end has a stack, and there is also a lateral stack. The interior is not accessible.
