Description

Abbeyfield is a house located on Church Street in Tewkesbury, dating from the early 19th century, though it may incorporate earlier elements. The building features Flemish bond brickwork, slate roofs, and brick stacks. Unlike nearby properties that have undergone modifications over the years, Abbeyfield appears to have been largely rebuilt in the 18th or 19th century, maintaining a street frontage with a deep back wing. Originally, it would have been part of a continuous medieval terrace that included Nos 34-51.

The house is three storeys high with a basement and has a three-windowed facade. The second floor has 12-pane sash windows, while the first floor has 16-pane sash windows, all set within fine brick voussoirs, with a central fluted keystone featuring a pediment and stone cills. There is a basement grille located to the left of the doorway, which is positioned at the far right. The entrance boasts a good six-panel door with a fanlight, framed by a fluted pilaster doorcase topped with an open pediment and panelled reveals. The building has a small plinth, a coped parapet, and a large stack on the left side.

At the back, there is a hipped slate roof covering a three-storey, two-windowed wing with 4-pane sash windows, along with a full-width glazed conservatory at ground level. The plain brick party wall with No. 48 features an additional stack, and there is a small gap to No. 51 to the south. The interior has not been inspected.
