Description
No. 126 High Street is a house with a shop, dating from the 18th century and late 19th century. The building features a rendered front over Flemish band brickwork and has tile roofs. It has a parallel side-entry plan, with a rebuilt front block that covers a throughway to the right. This front block has two narrow hipped wings at the rear, along with a further lower pair, all constructed in brick and tile from the 18th century. The entrance to the ground floor is through the doorway to the left, which is under No. 125. The building stands three storeys high and has two windows. It features 4-pane sash windows with flush peaked stone lintels and stone cills. The late 20th-century shop front retains 19th-century pilasters and a deep fascia with a moulded cornice and consoles, which continues to a doorway on the right that has six vertical modelled panels under a transom panel. The building has a plain coped parapet, and no chimney stack is visible. The interior has not been inspected, but the rear wings may be of interest.
