Description

Mercia is a house located on Hailes Street in Winchcombe, dating from the 16th or 17th century. The building is rendered on timber framing and features an upper level that juts out over the street, supported by four brackets. It has a stone slate roof and a small brick chimney on the right side. The house is two storeys high and has a two-windowed facade with widely spaced openings. The first floor includes three-light and two-light leaded casement windows, while the ground floor features a large four-light 19th-century casement window with a transom, along with a three-light window in a moulded architrave. The central entrance has a four-pane door beneath a three-pane transom light, framed by a flat wood architrave. Some timber framing is visible on the right gable. At one time, this building served as the 'Wheatsheaf' Inn. The interior has not been seen.
