Description
The water conduit, located approximately 12 meters north of the entrance to the churchyard in Dumbleton Village, is a former fountain built in memory of Edward Holland, who died in 1875. This is noted on a brass plaque on the north side of the structure. The conduit is constructed from limestone and sandstone, featuring a square base made up of two steps with four corner stones. Above this, there is a flat-chamfered square plinth supporting the fountain, with two courses of rock-faced limestone. A semi-circular bowl extends from the north side, and below it is a stone projection with a decorated circular brass spout. On the east side, there is a small stone trough. At the center, a small convex pyramidal feature sits under a square open-sided canopy, which has pointed arches and is supported by four circular columns topped with a pyramidal stone. The brass plaque on the north side bears the inscription: 'ERECTED / IN MEMORY OF / EDWARD HOLLAND / BY HIS OLD FRIENDS / W. McINROY / J. A. WEGWOOD / C.R. RAWLINSON / G. RANDALL / R. AND M. WEGWOOD'.
