Description
This is a 17th-century chest tomb located approximately 4 meters west of the path and 25 meters north of the north porch of the Abbey in Tewkesbury. It is made of limestone and features a very thick ledger slab with deep chamfered edges, resting on plain slab sides that lead to a splayed base on a brick sub-structure. The tomb has no inscriptions or decoration. Traditionally, the ledger is believed to be from the Norman high altar. The top surface is badly pitted, but there is no evidence of consecration crosses. The overall heavy form of the tomb is characteristic of the 17th century.
