Description
The Elizabeth Roberts monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard of the Church of St Martin, approximately 5 metres south of the chancel. The earliest date inscribed on the tomb is 1637 at the west end, while the south side features an inscription commemorating Elizabeth, the wife of Richard Roberts, who died in 1749. The north side has a sunken rectangular inscription panel with traces of a finely carved inscription, bordered by bead and reel moulding. There is a similar rectangular inscription panel on the south side. The west end shows traces of an inscription with fleur-de-lys decoration at the upper right and left, and there is an unused inscription panel at the east end. The tomb has a thick capping with a moulded edge and is set on a large stone base slab.
