Description

Rookwoods is a detached farmhouse dating to the late 17th century, with restorations in 1835 and 1921, and a late 20th-century addition. The house is two storeys with an attic, and includes a single-storey outbuilding range to the northwest. The south front has three gables and a three-window arrangement. It features three-light chamfered mullioned casement windows on both the ground and upper floors, with single-light casements in the attic. The central doorway has a chamfered opening with a lintel dated 1921, and a two-light casement to the right. A small, single-storey gabled projection is located to the left. Gable end chimneys are present, one marked with the date 1835. The north side mirrors the south front, with a 20th-century gabled stair hall addition to the right and a late 20th-century single-storey with attic, cross-gabled addition to the left. Window styles are mixed, including restored mullioned casements and older windows with timber ovolo moulded frames and leaded casements. Each gable incorporates a small leaded timber casement, and a large mullioned and transomed casement is present in the stair hall. The west end has a lower gable with single two-light chamfered mullioned casements on each floor. The interior was not inspected. The house enjoys a fine position overlooking the wooded Holy Brook valley.
