Description

PAINSWICK PARADISE SO 81 SE 2/266 Stable block c.20 m south of Paradise House GV II Stable block and coach house, now workshops. C19. Squared and coursed lime- stone, concrete tile roof to coped gables. A symmetrical structure with central wide gable or pediment. Central pair of plank doors to wide voussoired ellipti- cal opening; to left a 2-light stone mullioned casement and a plank door; to the right a glazed door under voussoired elliptical arch with keystone. Over central doors a row of pigeon openings over a string continued each side as an eaves cornice, and a central oculus in square panel, probably from an earlier building. Upper left are two sets of pigeon openings set upright, resembling ventilation slits. Left return has an old opening with chamfered lintel at first floor under a later oculus, and over two C20 casements in chamfered mullions. Back, built into slope, has two ventilation slits.
