Description

Moreton Hill Farmhouse, dating from the late 16th to early 17th century, is accompanied by a barn built in the early 19th century, located to the east. The farmhouse is constructed of coursed and dressed stone, resting on a chamfered plinth, and features a stone slate roof. It has a large ashlar ridge stack on the cross-gabled wing, which includes four diagonally set flues with a moulded cornice. The long wing has a stone ridge stack with two wide ashlar flues, likely from the 19th century, also featuring a frieze and moulded cornice. The building is L-shaped with a cross-gabled wing and has two storeys plus an attic.

The long range has three windows with scattered hollow-moulded stone mullions and a part continuous dripmould on the ground floor. There is a stair turret with three small single stone framed lights at the angle of the cross-gabled wing, which also has scattered hollow-moulded stone mullions and continuous dripmoulds. The layout includes a lobby entry plan with a blocked door to the south and an ovolo-moulded doorway to the north, along with oval lights at the apex of the south and north gables. A small two-storey lean-to was added later on the north side, and there is a single-storey wing, probably from the 19th century, at the north-west corner.

The north gable end features two and three-light stone mullions with continuous dripmoulds, and the ground floor has a three-light window with some iron glazing bars. There are also two small dormers on the rear. The barn, located to the east, is built of dressed stone with flush quoins and has a tile roof, along with an ashlar stack at the west end. The south side of the barn has brick patterned ventilating panels on the left, with two ground floor panels set into stone cambered head openings. There are opposed central flush cart entries with timber lintels, and the north side has a small brick lean-to on the left with a slate roof. The interior has not been inspected.
