Description
No. 36 Long Street is a dwelling and greengrocer/florist dating from the 17th century. It is constructed of squared and coursed stone with a stone slate roof and a stone stack on the left side. The building has a deep structure with a gable facing the street. It stands three storeys high and features one three-light casement window with horizontal glazing bars in the gable, and two sash windows with bars on the first floor, all of which are set beneath wooden lintels.
The ground floor has a small late 19th-century two-bay central recessed door shop front, which includes a wide battened door on heavy strap hinges within a robust frame and deep reveal positioned far to the right. The ground floor walling is cement rendered. Inside, there are some heavy unmoulded beams measuring approximately 15 inches by 9 inches, and a heavy half-timbered partition, which is now concealed, by the through-way. The building's deeds are reputed to date back to 1690.
