Description
Streamsfield consists of almshouses that were later converted into a farmhouse and are now used as dwellings. They were built in 1815 and feature a squared and coursed rubble front, with a rubble back and brick flanks. The original crenellations have been replaced with plain coping, and the building has a slate roof, although some areas have been replaced.
The structure is two stories high, with a prominent facade that includes two blind pointed arches at a higher level, one of which contains an inscription and the date. Nos 1 and 2 have their original pointed windows, with two widely spaced wood casement windows featuring uncusped tracery heads for each unit. No. 3 has been rebuilt and now has modern rectangular casements under flat lintels with stone hoods, which do not match the proportions or spacing of the originals. No. 1 retains its original ledged double door with iron strap hinges and leaded lights above.
Originally, this building served as the Rowland Hill Almshouses for twelve elderly women and is now surrounded by newer housing developments.
