Description

The Birches is a 17th-century building with a front dating to the 18th century, located in Uplands. It is constructed of coursed rubble, primarily rendered, with an ashlar front. The roof is modern pitched, and there are ashlar chimneys. The building is two storeys and has attics. The front features a plain string course, a moulded eaves cornice, and a blocking course. It has three ranges of double-hung sash windows with glazing bars and shutters. A door with an oblong fanlight is flanked by two mid-19th century canted bays with battered stone roofs. The rear elevation has a string course and two ranges of mullioned windows. There are three attic dormers with casements. A 17th-century extension has one mullioned window to the south.
