Description

Turrett Cottage and the adjoining house originated as three houses built in the late 17th century, with later additions from the mid-18th century. They are now combined into two dwellings. Construction is of random and coursed rubble limestone, with artificial stone chimneys and a concrete tile roof. The main part, Turrett Cottage, is two storeys high and has a 3-window front. The windows are 3-light casements, with hoodmoulds over the ground floor windows linking them to the doorways – one doorway is now blocked. Central single-light casements are present on both the ground and upper floors. The eaves are at a high level above the upper floor windows. The adjoining house is two storeys with an attic addition to the southwest and a half-gable front. It has a single window below the gable, with a 3-light window to the ground and upper floors and a 2-light window in the attic, all featuring chamfered mullions and hoodmoulds. A doorway with a stone lintel and plank door is located to the right. A single-storey addition on the northeast side is not of particular architectural interest. The rear of the property features two projecting, round-ended stair turrets with conical stone slate roofs. The interior was not inspected, but the roof is said to contain upper crucks. Stone spiral stairs are found in the turrets, leading to the rear of the building.
