Description
The boundary wall to the churchyard, which includes gatepiers, a niche, and a lych gate, is a significant structure. The lych gate dates from the 17th century, while the niche may date back to the 14th century, and the wall itself is from the early 19th century. The wall is constructed of limestone rubble, with ashlar piers and niche. The lych gate features timber boarding and a stone slate roof, along with iron gates.
The boundary wall extends from the junction with the stables and cart shed at Priory Farm, connecting to the lych gate, niche, and gateway that has square piers with moulded caps on the east side of the churchyard. It returns to the east chancel wall of the church. The lych gate has solid random rubble side walls that support a boarded cross-gabled structure with a stone roof. There is a segmental pointed arch to the gabled niche on the north side, which contains a horse trough at its base and a carved bracket above, possibly intended for an image. This structure contributes to the overall grouping of items in and around the churchyard.
