Description
The chapel, located adjacent to and to the northwest of the mansion, dates from the late 14th century, with alterations made in the early to mid-16th century. It is constructed of ashlar and random rubble limestone, topped with a stone slate roof. The chapel features a nave with a chancel and is connected to the mansion by a cloister on the south side.
On each side of the nave, there is a central four-centred arched doorway with a hoodmould that has bold labels, leading to a plank door. The north side has two three-light mullioned windows from the 16th century, while the south side has one similar window, all featuring four-centred arched lights and bald hoodmoulds. The nave has gabled ends with parapets, and the eastern end includes a belcote with an octagonal spire supported by central and side supports. The west window is a four-light Perpendicular-traceried window from the 15th century, and there is a similar east window with a hoodmould that has heraldic angel stops. The chancel has two two-light mullioned windows from the 16th century, similar to those in the nave, and there are some offset buttresses. The interior has not been inspected. This ancient manorial chapel is likely contemporary with the earlier medieval manor house.
