Description
The road bridge over the railway line in Standish was built in 1844 for the former Bristol and Gloucester Railway and later adapted in the 1860s for the Midland Railway. It has undergone alterations in the 20th century. The bridge features a cast iron span supported by brick abutments and topped with plain stone coping. It consists of a single span arch with a central arched support, creating two bays, and has five stepped hollowed-out sections on each side of the arch. The roadway is curved and approximately 5 meters wide, with a span of about 23 meters in length. The bridge includes seven bays between the vertical members of the balustrade, although the horizontal section has been replaced by 20th-century wire mesh.
