Description
Barn. Built around the late 17th or early 18th century, with extensions in the later 18th century. The barn is constructed of brick in English and random bond, with a clay plain tile roof and gabled ends. A pantiled lean-to is situated on the southwest side.
The original plan consisted of a six-bay barn with a central midstrey (a central bay used for threshing) on the south side. A stable block with a loft was added to the east end in the later 18th century. A late 19th-century lean-to cattle shed was built on the southwest side of the west end.
The south-facing side of the barn features a central hipped midstrey with partially corrugated and partially timber doors, along with a lean-to. Stable additions are on the east end, with a staircase leading to a loft doorway in the east gable. A cart entrance is located at the rear (north side) to the right of centre.
Inside, the barn has six bays with four tie-beam and collar trusses, supported by two tiers of tenoned-purlins. The small collars are mortised to the principals. A similar truss is present in the midstrey, with common-rafters and a ridgeboard. A loft was inserted into the west three bays during the 19th century. There are ventilation slits at the east end.
