Description

Grigshot Cottages, originally two houses and now a detached dwelling, was built in the mid-18th century, with an addition from the 19th century. The construction is of coursed rubble limestone with an ashlar chimney and a stone slate roof, with plain tiles on the later addition. The two-storey house with an attic has two full attic gables, each featuring a two-light, chamfered mullioned casement window with iron casements, incorporating leading to fixed lights. Below, each floor has a three-light casement window, with doorways at the outer ends, each having timber lintels and plank doors. A central chimney, rebuilt and with a plain cap, rises from the ridge. A two-storey addition is present at the south end, with timber casements, including a four-light row on the upper floor. The sides and rear of the building are plain and built into the bank. The interior remains unexamined. The cottages form part of a group that includes Grigshot House and Grigshot Lodge.
