Description

Lloyds Bank is a mid-18th century building, originally a town house, located on the north side of Long Street, Dursley. It is constructed of red Flemish bond brick with ashlar limestone dressings and a stone slate roof. The building has a roughly L-shaped plan, standing three storeys high with an attic and basement.

The front elevation has a four-window arrangement featuring segmental-arched, 12-pane sash windows with moulded and keyed architraves, moulded sills, and lugged aprons. An off-centre doorway is topped by a pediment and flanked by attached Ionic columns; the round archway has a rusticated architrave and moulded imposts, leading to an eight-panel fielded door. The basement windows are also segmental-arched and feature plain keyed architraves. Chamfered quoins mark the corners, and a moulded eaves cornice runs along the top. A balustraded parapet, divided into two sections, sits above the cornice, and a hipped roof is hidden behind an access dormer.

The west side of the building is partially visible above number 1 Long Street and contains single round-arched windows with small panes on each floor, and an additional sash window to the upper floor’s right. The rear elevation features a Venetian window to the middle and upper floors, and a pedimented roof dormer with a small-paned casement.

The ground floor interior has been altered, but the upper floors remain uninspected. The building is imposing and set back from the street line. It was likely built as a clothier's house.
