Description

A group of four memorials, including those for William Tyndall and James Poulton, is located approximately 2 to 10 meters south of the southeast corner of the chancel of the Parish Church of St George. The memorials are arranged in a parallel alignment running north-south from the chancel.

The first memorial is a lofty chest tomb from the late 18th century, made of limestone. It features a moulded cornice, a cavetto base, and elliptical panels. This tomb is dedicated to William Tyndall and dates to 1799. It is positioned closest to the chancel wall and is set lower than the other three memorials.

The second memorial is a chest tomb from the mid-18th century, also made of limestone. It showcases a rich baroque design with a rounded edge cyma top, baroque quarter balusters, and square panels with bolection moulding on one face only. The inscriptions on this tomb are not legible and it is located immediately south of the Tyndall memorial.

The third memorial is another chest tomb from the mid-18th century, although the earliest legible date is from the late 18th century. It is made of limestone and features a cyma top, a moulded base, quarter balusters, and elliptical panels, with one end being plain. At the east end, there are weeping putts. This tomb is dedicated to James Poulton, who died in 1794, and is situated about 7.5 meters south of the chancel wall.

The fourth memorial is a chest tomb from the mid-18th century, constructed of limestone. It has a moulded top and a cavetto base, with small quarter balusters and elliptical raised panels that include corner rosettes. The inscriptions on this tomb are also not legible, and it is located immediately south of the Poulton memorial.
