Description

St Anne's is a house located on the east side of Gloucester Street in Painswick. It features a late 18th century or early 19th century front, which is built onto a body that dates back to the 17th or 18th century. The street front is constructed with large square limestone blocks and has a concrete tile roof, with some slate at the back, topped with a coped verge and an ashlar stack at the capping. The building is positioned hard against the pavement edge and extends back to a gabled rear.

The house has two storeys, an attic, and a part basement, with two windows on the front. On the ground floor, there are two 12-pane sash windows set in plain reveals with plain stone lintels. There is also a square opening to the basement, which is set in a stepped plinth with a weathered top. The first floor mirrors the ground floor with two windows of the same style, but these have small decorative cast iron balconies. At the eaves, there is a gabled dormer with a 2-light casement window.

The doorway is located in an extension on the left side and is paired with the doorway to the adjacent property, Stoneleigh. The door is panelled and sits beneath a 4-pane transom light, topped with a basket-handle arch and framed by part-fluted pilasters. The second paired opening appears to also belong to St Anne's. The frontage and roof of St Anne's are continuous with Ashton House, which is nearby.
