St Annes

PAINSWICK GLOUCESTER STREET SO 8609/8709 (part of) (east side) 8/90 St Anne's GV II House in row. Late C18 or early Cl9 front to C17 or C18 body. Large square limestone blocks to street front, concrete tile roof, some slate at back, to coped verge with ashlar stack to capping. Street front hard on pavement edge, building runs back to gabled rear. Two storeys, attic, part basement; 2 windows. At ground floor two 12-pane sashes in plain reveals and plain stone lintels, are square opening to basement in stepped plinth with weathered top; first floor has two windows the same, but with small decorative cast iron 'balconies', and a 2-light casement gabled dormer at eaves. Doorway is in extension, left, paired with that to Stoneleigh (q.v.); door panelled, under 4-pane transom light to basket-handle arch, framed by part-fluted pilasters to bases and the second, paired opening appears to belong also to St Anne's. Frontage and roof are continuous with Ashton House (q.v.).
