Description
No. 78, Westgate Street is an early 19th-century shop and former dwelling, which may incorporate an earlier structure. It has undergone 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed of red brick with a slate roof, arranged as a double-depth block. The exterior features a stone-coped parapet. The ground floor has a 20th-century shop front. The first floor contains two tall, late 19th-century sash windows with horns, each with central vertical glazing bars in the upper frames. The second floor has two short, late 19th-century sash windows with central vertical glazing bars. All sashes are set within original openings with flat-arched heads consisting of five raised-and-stepped stone voussoirs and projecting stone sills. The interior was not inspected.
