Description

Forge Thatch Cottage is a pair of houses built in the mid-17th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. The structure is primarily timber framed, with parts refaced in brick, and features brick chimneys and a thatched roof. It is a single-storey building with an attic, and there is a 20th-century addition at the north end.

The west front is mostly refaced in brick and has three small-paned casement windows. To the left, there is a 20th-century projecting brick porch, a rendered plinth, and two thatched dormers with lead aprons. The thatch has scalloped ridge decoration, and there is a large central ridge-mounted brick chimney that has been cut down.

On the south end, the gable end is made of random rubble limestone with brick above it, featuring a projecting stone plinth. There is a single ground floor casement window and two 20th-century attic casements, along with a ridge-mounted brick chimney.

The east side has scattered small-paned casements set in brickwork on the ground floor, with small timber framing visible above the eaves. There is a plank door to the left with a 20th-century glazed porch, and some exposed framing to the right that continues down to the limestone plinth. There are two thatched dormers, one with a lead apron and the other with a tiled apron.

At the north end, the 20th-century single-storey addition has a framed gable end with two diagonal braces, a small-paned attic casement, and a half hip to the thatch. The timber framing is more visible on the interior.
