Description
No. 123 Westgate Street is a shop and former dwelling, built in the early 19th century, though it may include parts of an earlier structure. It was likely constructed alongside the refronting of the adjacent No. 121 Westgate Street, which is the Lower George Hotel. The building is made of stuccoed brick with stone details and has a hipped slate roof with a brick chimney stack. It is a double-depth block with a rear wing at the corner of Lower Quay Street.
The exterior features three storeys, topped with a close-set modillion cornice and a stone-coped parapet that continues with the cornice and parapet of No. 121. On the ground floor, there is a recessed 20th-century shop front. The first floor has two tall plain sash windows from the late 19th century, while the second floor has two shorter plain sash windows. These windows are set in openings with flat arches made of five stepped-and-raised stone voussoirs and have projecting stone sills. The interior has not been inspected.
