Description

This building, located on the south side of Westgate Street in Gloucester, originally served as a house and is now divided into two shops with former living quarters. The core of the building dates back to the 15th century, but it was significantly remodeled in the early 19th century, with later alterations in the 20th century.

The building is timber-framed and rendered, with a gabled slate roof. It comprises a front range with a rear wing for each of the two units. The front facade has two late 19th-century shop fronts on the ground floor, framed by stone pilasters and brackets supporting a cornice. The first floor, originally jettied, is now rendered and features sash windows with vertical glazing bars in wooden architraves. Two 20th-century roof lights replace earlier dormers.

The ground floor shop interiors have 20th-century linings and fittings. The attic of the front range contains some of the original open roof framing, including curved wind braces.
