Description
No. 42 Southgate Street is a shop and former dwelling built in the late 18th century or early 19th century, with 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed of brick with stone details and has a slate roof. It is a double-depth block that stands three storeys tall with a cellar. The front features an early 20th-century shop front. The upper floors are divided into two bays, topped with a low stone-capped parapet. Each upper floor has two sash windows with glazing bars arranged in a 4x3 pane configuration, set in openings with flat arched heads made of five raised-and-stepped voussoirs, and supported by projecting stone sills. The interior has not been inspected.
