Description
Gun's Mills House is a house from the early 19th century, with some parts possibly dating back earlier. It has an 'L'-shaped plan, with the main wing being two rooms deep. The front of the main wing is built of brick in Flemish bond, while the left wing is made of coursed, squared stone with larger quoins and is rendered on the front. The roof is hipped and covered with slate.
The house is two stories tall and features three sash windows, with a bowed end on the right side. The windows have stone sills and rubbed-brick flat arches. The central door is accessed by two semi-circular steps and has a semi-circular stone head supported by Tuscan pilasters, although the porch is missing. Above the original six-panelled door is a radial fanlight. The ground-floor window sills extend as a plain stone string course, and there is a plain stone plinth. To the left of the front door, there is ashlar stone between the string course and the plinth, and a blocked door at the left end.
The left return wing is two windows wide and was originally three stories, but its eaves are slightly lower. The windows in this wing were four panes wide. Inside, there are panelled doors leading to the entrance hall, and a large fireplace in the room on the left, featuring a stone surround with an elliptical head and a salt cupboard. No floors remain in the three-story wing, and the third floor of the main block was removed by 1947.
