Description

The Old Police Station is a dwelling, dating back to the 18th century with a front facade redesigned in the mid-19th century. It has a long span roof covered with Welsh slate. The front elevation is two storeys high, with a central gable and a coved cornice extending to a string course that runs continuously to the first-floor window sills. The building features five sash windows at ground floor, each with a moulded surround. The first floor has sash windows with vestigial surrounds, except for the outermost ones. A central gable contains a three-light mullioned casement window. A new front door is fitted with a small, plain transome light, set within a moulded surround. The building appears to be a Victorian re-facing of an earlier structure and is considered important to the group of buildings in the square. Formerly known as Lysia House, it was once the local Police Station.
