Description
The Cider House at Greenway House is a former cider house that has been converted into a store. It dates from the mid-18th century and features irregular Flemish bond brickwork with a tiled roof, complemented by stone-slates at the eaves on one side. The building has three bays, is 1½ storeys tall, and includes a cellar. The gable end faces the main house and has a brick plinth. There are steps leading down to a central boarded door, with built-up windows on either side, all topped with cambered brick arches. To the right, five stone steps with a simple iron handrail lead to another boarded door, also with a cambered brick arch above it. A four-pane window is located in the center, beneath a similar arch. Above, there is a plain brick string course, with a similar window in the loft and an additional string course in the gable. On the left side, there are two boarded-over windows with cambered brick arches and a plain brick string course above. Inside, the cellar features an elliptical brick vault, while the ground floor has heavy timber beams. There is a brick dogleg staircase leading to the upper floor, which has interrupted tie-beam trusses, V bracing above the collar, two pairs of purlins, and a plank ridge. The Cider House forms a group with the main house.
