Description
The Cider House, located about 3 meters west of Corse Court, is a late 17th-century structure. It features a brick-nogged timber frame set on a stone plinth, with weatherboarded gables and a tiled roof. The building consists of two bays and is a single storey high. The framing includes two panels high, with a long brace extending from the sill to the corner post at each corner. There are double boarded doors positioned to the right of the center. Inside, the structure has a collar and tie beam truss with angled struts and one pair of purlins. Notably, there is a pivot for the spindle of a cider mill located on the underside of the tie beam, and the floor is set with stone, providing a circular walk for a horse. This building is an early example of a specialist type used for cider production.
