Description
The Harper monument is a headstone located about 3 meters south of the east end of the nave in the churchyard of the Church of St. Michael and All Angels. It commemorates John Harper, who died in 1757. The monument is made of stone and features a segmental top with an anthropomorphic front. Above the inscription, there is a winged cherub's head, surrounded by scrolls and leaves. The back of the stone is slightly chamfered. This headstone is particularly finely carved and well preserved, with well-cut lettering, making it one of the best examples of early to mid 18th century headstones in the area. It commemorates a death by smallpox.
