Description

Poulton Court is a farmhouse dating to the 16th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble with a Welsh slate roof. The building has a roughly L-shaped plan, with twin gables and two main stacks on the west front; one stack features a double stack terminal. Porches are located in the west-central area and centrally on the back wing, facing north. The west front has two storeys and three windows. The ground floor has 18th-century sash windows with bars, while the first floor features two 2-light casements and a small single light with leading, reportedly servicing a powder cabinet. A 19th-century porch is centrally positioned. The north elevation has a three-storey gable to the right, with two 18th-century 3-light sashes without bars, one 3-light stone mullioned casement, and the remains of a 2-light chamfered mullion light. The left wing features 3- and 4-light casements and a deep porch with a heavy flat arch to the new door. Inside, a fine newel staircase runs in two flights, and a steep-pitched roof structure is visible. There is good Jacobean panelling at the stair head and in one first-floor room to the south. Some original wattle and daub remains in the roof space.
