Description
The stone pier located at NGR SP 0061 0229 is a former gate pier, now serving as a pier. It dates from the early to mid-18th century and is constructed from limestone ashlar featuring vermiculated rustication. The pier stands approximately 3 meters high and includes a moulded stone plinth, alternating bands of ashlar and vermiculated rustication, a moulded stone cornice, and a two-tier cap topped with a ball finial and a band of vermiculated rustication. The corners of the pier are recessed. This pier is situated to the north of Broad Ride, with a matching pier to the south at NGR SP 0061 0232. It is believed that these piers originally supported gates between the Deer Park and Lodge Park and were relocated to their current positions when the Broad Ride was extended eastwards to Cecily Hill after 1779.
