Description
This listing describes a pair of adjoining cottages located at Broadbridge, with one currently occupied by Mr and Mrs Crump. The larger cottage is likely from the 18th century, while the smaller cottage dates to the 19th century. Both are constructed from limestone rubble, with the 18th-century cottage featuring a slate roof and the 19th-century cottage having a stone slate roof. There is a concrete tile roof on an extension at the rear of the smaller cottage, and the larger cottage has limestone rubble stacks, whereas the smaller cottage has a brick stack.
The 18th-century cottage has a rectangular plan and stands two storeys tall, with its gable end facing the road. It has a symmetrical facade with two windows, all of which are double-chamfered stone-mullioned casements that include horizontal glazing bars. The central entrance features a six-panel door, with the upper two panels glazed, set within a flat-chamfered dressed stone surround that includes a keystone.
The 19th-century cottage is 1.5 storeys high and has a two-light stone-mullioned casement window on the ground floor, with a two-light half dormer above. There is also a part-glazed gabled porch with part-glazed double doors located on the lower left side. A single-storey flat-roofed extension from the 20th century is present but is not considered of special interest. The interior of the cottages has not been inspected.
