Description
John Brown's Cottage is a small detached house dating from the mid to late 17th century. It is constructed of random rubble limestone with an ashlar chimney and a stone slate roof. The building is two-storey with a single-storey outshut on the south end. The east front features a central half gable with a recessed chamfered mullioned two-light casement window. Below this is an off-centre doorway with a timber lintel, a door that has leaded glazing, and a small timber porch. To the right of the door is a timber casement window. The rear of the cottage has a similar gable and window arrangement. There is a projecting chimney on the north side with a plain cap, and the south outshut has a half hipped lean-to roof. The interior was not inspected. At the time of the survey in March 1986, the cottage was noted to be very small, picturesque, and somewhat dilapidated.
