Description
The boundary walls from South Lodge to Court House date from the early 17th century, part of Sir Baptist Hicks' layout, with some sections from the 18th century. They are constructed of squared ashlar rubble and feature moulded and weathered coping, except for a 20-yard section to the south of the carriage splash, which has plain coping. The walls are interrupted by a barn complex located north of Almonny. There is a segmental drain-arch to the left of the double door entry leading to the yard south of the barn complex. The walls ramp up to the barn and to South Lodge, with a height of about 7 to 8 feet, and include a lower quadrant and a blocked gateway at the junction with Calf's Lane. These walls are a significant part of the grouping that includes the Church, Almshouses, and Lodge-gates, and they continue as the south wall of the churchyard.
