Description
The Police Station and Magistrates' Court, built in the 1860s or 1870s, is a Gothic-style building located on the west side of High Street. It is two and a half storeys tall, constructed of rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings, and features a Cotswold stone roof. The building has ashlar chimneys, including one for the courtroom with an octagonal stack. A string course runs over the ground floor, and there is a large gable on the left side with a three-light pointed window in the Decorated style, while a smaller gable on the right accommodates a two-light attic window. The building also includes mullion and transom windows, particularly in the bay on the left side of the ground floor and in a four-centred opening above an off-centre left doorway. A covered stair is located in a lean-to on the left. At the rear, there is a large plate tracery window in the Decorated style. This building is considered one of the better police stations from its period in the Cotswolds.
