Description
The Hayward Monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard approximately 12 meters south of the Church of St. Michael. It dates from the late 18th century and is made of grey sandstone. The monument is designed in the Adam style, featuring a funereal urn in relief on the west end panel. The east end displays a ribbon bow that incorporates a floral spray. Both end panels are topped with cornices and have floral decorations on the side returns. The sides of the tomb have a plain raised inscription, with the south side reading: "In Memory of / JOHN HAYWARD who departed this life / Aug 19th 1783 Aged 48 yrs / There is no Age that Death will spare / All Ages they must die / Therefore to die let all prepare / To Laye Eternally."
