Description
At the Sign of the Herald Angel is a house dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. It is constructed of coursed squared limestone rubble and features a clay tile roof. The building has two storeys and an attic, with a one-window range. On the first floor, there is an 8/8-pane sash window set in a plain reveal with a stone cill. The ground floor includes a 19th-century shop window with six 3-pane sections, framed in a moulded timber surround. A gabled half-dormer above has a two-light timber casement. The entrance features a four-panel door that has been altered to create a 'stable' effect, positioned to the right under an exposed timber lintel, which has the date 1647 scratched on it, although this appears to be a recent and unlikely addition. The building has a shallow ashlar plinth and quoins at the left and right angles. The interior has not been inspected.
